Steel in Bloom

The goal was to deliver a multi-sensory touch point offering visitors a quiet respite amidst the hustle and bustle of the busy passenger terminal. Creating a thought-provoking hybrid display, Steel in Bloom is a novel experiential garden and a key rest stop for visitors when they enter the terminal.

Steel in Bloom
was themed around the idea of synergy between organic forms and mechanical elements. The centrepiece integrates living horticultural elements while the technology aspect speaks to the innovative nature of Terminal 4. The garden layout was also inspired by the fluidity of topographical lines, visually complementing Terminal 4’s ‘petal’ concept architecture as a whole.

The understructure comprises expansive tree-like branches which provide structural rigidity and strength. Layered with walls of lace-like steel, botanical motifs are exquisitely detailed and rendered in a contemporary papercut style. The second layer of the structure is more dimensional and inlaid with printed lighting, a high-tech, ultra-thin (1mm) and lightweight lighting system integrated into the forms of flower blossoms and butterflies.

The third and final layer of the structure is designed to be interchangeable, with a moveable support and interlocking edges, allowing live air plants to be integrated into the structure as part of seasonal decorations. stalled together with a light show that takes full advantage of the sculpture’s intricate form.

Besides providing a key rest point for visitors among T4 retail shops, the garden embodies a remarkably accurate impression of Singapore as a world-class City in a Garden, introducing Singapore as a country with abundant lush greenery while remaining as a bustling metropolitan city. The main structure represents the symbiosis and interweaving of human artisanship and living plants, reminding us of the interdependence between Man and Nature.

Multiple prototypes, including 3D printed versions and full-scale mockups, were created to achieve the final buildable sculpture. The curved convex transparent terrarium covers were particularly challenging to fabricate, with extensive trials using materials like glass and high-density acrylic required to make a viable shape and achieve the correct look.

A zone for travellers to project their imagination and excitement while exploring the world and beholding the site of an engaging and visually-arresting landmark.

MONOPOLY DREAMS™

to activate

Our design and visitor journey was greatly inspired by the story behind Mr. MONOPOLY, the iconic mascot behind the board game. Mr. MONOPOLY was given a personality and a backstory, all of which visitors could discover and experience in this attraction. Visitors start the experience by taking an elevator that leads to Mr. MONOPOLY’s secret residence, where visitors can browse through rare Monopoly collectibles, a library of MONOPOLY tokens, and take photos with Mr. MONOPOLY’s antique race car – a classic metal car game token that has been supersized.

After exploring Mr. MONOPOLY’s residence, visitors can begin their games and pass the ‘Go’ sign, walking through a neon-lit tunnel to enter MONOPOLY City, a town where iconic MONOPOLY elements have been brought to life. Visitors can visit the ‘Jail’, ‘Water Works’ and ‘Electric Company’ to participate in interactive games, and even head into the ‘Train Station’ for a multimedia 4D show where visitors participate by helping Mr. MONOPOLY chase after the burglar that has stolen a valuable diamond from his mansion.

As with every board game, the best part of a MONOPOLY game is earning money and winning. Visitors can step into the ‘Bank’ to win MONOPOLY cash coupons that can be spent at the attraction’s gift shop and cafe. They can also enter the ‘Community Chest’ to spin a wheel and win prizes ranging from food coupons to plane tickets!

Our design brought to life a 2D board game to create an immersive visitor experience. Well-loved and iconic elements from the board game were transformed into refreshing interactive experiences that were both nostalgic for fans of the board game and also exciting for tourists looking for a fun way to spend an afternoon.

Seven popular Hasbro brands – Transformers, My Little Pony, NERF, MONOPOLY, CLUEDO, Baby Alive, and Play-Doh – were supersized into fun experiences that promote family interaction and bonding through play and education. Visitors can now relive memories of iconic childhood games as live-sized animated characters meet visitors through uniquely designed game stations and in performances by mascots, bringing the toys to life out of the box!

Fans of MONOPOLY can step into the iconic green house or red hotel from the board game, or test their luck at a chance vault, where they can stand to win vouchers. Fans can also put on their detective hat in an escape room modelled after the popular board game CLUEDO, where they can search for hidden clues and question suspects.
